From September 20-21, ‘TEAM SCHOELLER’ took part in the Transaid Newcastle to Edinburgh Cycle Challenge, raising funds for the charity’s healthcare and road safety initiatives across the African continent.
The team comprised Kyriakos Vlachos, Group CFO at Schoeller Holdings; Eike Muentz, General Manager Europe at AAL; John Pittalis, Head of Marketing & Communications at AAL; Ricarda Lewandowski, Chartering Broker at AAL; Gregory Spourdalakis, Managing Director at CSM Greece; and Nicolas Sarris, Assistant Technical Officer at CSM.
Starting in Newcastle, the group cycled along the coast from the Tyne Estuary to the border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed for a much-needed break before hitting the road once again the next morning for the second leg of the challenge, finishing at Edinburgh Castle. Over the 48 hours, the team cycled more than 255 km.
Almost 40 cyclists from across the transport and logistics industry completed the challenge, raising nearly 80,000 USD in total for Transaid. The charity was founded by Save the Children, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), and its Patron HRH Princess Royal and has over 25 years’ worth of experience in over 23 countries helping under privileged communities across the African continent to transform their lives through safe and sustainable transport of vital medicines and goods. The event concluded with a celebratory dinner in the Scottish city, where TEAM SCHOELLER received a special acknowledgement for their team spirit and “leave no man behind” attitude throughout the challenge. A huge accomplishment from the riders and all participants in the Transaid Challenge.
